Cape Town is a city known for its incredible food scene, particularly when it comes to fresh seafood. But beyond the beaches and fish markets, the Mother City also boasts some of the finest steakhouses in the world.
From the iconic Hussar Grill to the modern Butcher Shop & Grill, there’s no shortage of exceptional places for steak lovers to indulge.
Among the many contenders, TimeOut has awarded IRON Steak and Bar on Bree Street as an emerging global favourite.
Known for its expertly cooked steaks and a menu that combines tradition with innovation, IRON has set the bar high.
The restaurant’s standout feature is its Spanish Vulcano Grez grill, which imparts a perfect smoky flavour and sear to each cut of meat. It is designed to take advantage of the embers of a BBQ or oven, so the grill can be taken to the table, where it can be used to either maintain grilled meats or vegetables hot or to finish off pieces of meat that have been previously sealed.
TimeOut notes that the Summer Special offers a complete meal that starts with beef dripping popcorn, followed by a 200g grass-fed flat-iron steak with a fresh salad and ends off with indulgent salted caramel ice cream.
For a more extravagant experience, TimeOut recommends the Tomahawk – a bone-in rib-eye that’s perfect for those looking to splurge. Side dishes like truffled leek mac-and-cheese and chips cooked in Wagyu drippings are contemporary takes on classic steakhouse fare that elevate the experience to new heights.
Then restaurant was thrilled to be named the sixth best steakhouse restaurant in the world and commented on their achievement, ‘We’re thrilled to announce that IRON Steak and Bar has ranked 6th in the world in Timeout Travel’s The 10 Best Steaks in the World list!.’
