An award-winning, modern Zulu-inspired restaurant that celebrated Nguni cuisine and South African ingredients at the V&A Waterfront will be closing down.
Chef Mmabatho Molefe made the announcement on Instagram, stating that the 10-seater restaurant in Makers Landing will close its doors on 25 February.
‘Starting out as a 10 seater restaurant with three chefs, a waiter and no sculler is definitely how I would do it again. It has come to the time we can officially announce that our time at Makers Landing has come to an end and we will be closing our doors on the 25th of February.’
‘What a time it has been! We have grown, collaborated and met some of the best people we could ever meet, but the best part about it has been getting the chance to feed and serve all of you.’
Chef Molefe has been making waves in the culinary industry since 2020, when she opened Emazulwini after losing her job in the restaurant industry due to the pandemic.
Last year, she was a guest chef on Carousel’s Open Kitchen in London, and before that, she was named one of the World’s 50 Next Hospitality Pioneers.
In 2022, Emazulwini Restaurant won the title of African Restaurant of the Year at the fourth annual Luxe Restaurant Awards.
Emazulwini will host a special collaboration for their last Sunday lunch, and patrons are encouraged to keep an eye on their social media pages for more details.
