Grande Roche Hotel & Restaurant is one of Paarl’s pride and joys of 31 years, the country hotel and restaurant is a stunning place to splurge on a well-deserved staycation and/or dining experience during the autumn and spring seasons. Upon entering the gates, you’re greeted with orchards, mountains, and colourful flora of all sorts.
Foodies can relish in head chef Kevin Grobler’s new offering – a delectable menu of in-vogue Sharing Plates experience. Visitors have the option of a 3-course priced at R550 per person, or a 4-course priced at R650 per person. Although perhaps a bit on the pricy side for many, it’s an experience that’s well worth the money. Says chef Kevin, ‘It’s an ideal way to enjoy delicious food with family and friends at a festive table. We have created some really tasty dishes with inspiration from around the globe.’

What can you expect to see on the Sharing Plates menu? Although chef Kevin will be changing the dishes often, some favourites include pork pot stickers with chilli and sesame dressing; fried zucchini bhaji, tzatziki mousse and dill dust; calamari steak with sticky rice and gochujang sauce as well as cape Malay mussels cooked in curried apricots and served with garlic naan. You’ll also find sweet treats on the menu: lemon éclairs and crème brûlée doughnuts.
There’s also the Food and Wine evenings to look forward to. During these events visitors gets a welcome drink and a 4-course meal accompanied by a selected wine from the relevant cellar at a cost of R750 per person.

The restaurant’s Full English Breakfast experience deserves a spotlight, too. If smoked salmon, the eggs benedict of your dreams and tasty pastries (to name but a few) are up your alley, you’d swoon over their breakfast menu.
Those who stay overnight can unwind at any of the hotel’s various accommodation options – each one as elegant and serene as the next, with vineyards and mountains on your doorstep. Each room and suite celebrate indigenous flora and the rich history of the farm, with wooden beams and floral wallpaper that takes care of a warm and homey, yet luxurious feel.
