• It’s official: World Cup fever has arrived!

We’ve waited a long four years for this moment and we can now rejoice and unapologetically spend more time in front of the TV – and less time, well…taking out the trash. Sorry, babe!

Every South African knows that a get-together with loved ones is not a get together without the food we love…If you’re hosting the game or are taking a few snacks over to a friend’s house, put these ideas on the menu!

    Boerie rolls

Even the fussiest of eaters just love a juicy boerie roll in front of the TV. This is a classic that never goes wrong…unless you get so excited about the goal that you forget about the meat on the coals. Allow everyone to add their own toppings and sauces and you’ll have happy guests. Just make sure there are enough for seconds!

    Nachos

Impress your guests with some awesome beef nachos in the comfort of your own home. A bowl of nachos is the perfect finger food for THE match. Top the nachos with chicken, beef or pork or, for a vegetarian option, try a mix of black beans and sweetcorn.

    Hot wings

Heavenly! Marinade the wings overnight in a hot and sweet sauce. Arrange on a baking tray, place under the grill on a low setting. Turn frequently to make sure they don’t burn. Add some oven chips and serve. Not even your hard-to-please mother-in-law will be able to resist!

    Sausage rolls

This is a great, “Oh no, I completely forgot we were hosting” snack. If your guests are scheduled to arrive in the next few minutes and you don’t want to be caught ordering takeaways, pop some sausage rolls in the oven. Make sure you have some frozen ones on hand for just such an occasion. If you’ve got more time, buy some frozen puff pastry and pork or beef sausages, slice off the casings and wrap the defrosted pastry around the meat to form a sausage roll. Brush the tops with a little milk. Place on a greased baking tray and bake for 30 minutes at 180°C until golden brown.  Serve with sweet-chilli or tomato sauce and your family will never know that you had an “Oh, no!” moment.

    Toast

Wait, before you think we’re crazy, ask yourself what will go on the toast. Allow your guests to top their slices with some soft cheeses, smashed avocado or fancier options like a selection of pâtés. Or be even more adventurous and try this delicious crushed pea and bean toasts to wow your loved ones!

But even more importantly, is the big screen TV you’re watching insured as part of your home contents insurance? If not, apply for an online insurance quote today. You are sure to find a great deal to insure your valuables and get affordable home insurance to boot!
