• Cape Town’s much-loved vegan deli, Grumpy & Runt, is closing its doors – again. If you’re feeling a little déjà vu, you’re not alone. This isn’t the first time locals have had to say goodbye to their legendary sandos and crave-worthy donuts.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Grumpy & Runt team shared the news: “Ya’ll not going to believe this, but here we go AGAIN… Our shared location at @eatditto will be closing its doors, and we will no longer be able to operate from there.”

For those who’ve followed their journey, this one stings. The brand has been a staple for plant-based comfort food lovers, offering up some of the best sandwiches and sweet treats in the city. While their unexpected reopening at Ditto felt like a lucky second chance, it seems that fate had other plans.

“We are truly sad about this, but also immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to make donuts and sandos for all of you again.”

The silver lining? They’re not ruling out a comeback. “We might not be able to resurface, but we have learnt that the door does not have to necessarily close forever and we are hoping that we can still get your donuts to you, in some way…”

That’s all the hope we need. Because honestly, Cape Town without Grumpy & Runt just doesn’t feel right. You can line up for one last bite before their final trading day on Sunday, 2 March.
