    Saturday 1 September

Our tour bus drove us onto a ferry, early this morning (with a quick photo stop at the wooden horse that was built for the movie Troy) and we disembarked at the Gallipoli peninsula. Such a sobering and sad time there, seeing the names of so many young men from all over the world that lost their lives during the Battle of Gallipoli.

Then we drove to the Kipi border post and into Greece! Really loved our time in Turkey. From the hospitable people everywhere, to the communal, sharing-your-meal style of eating, the exotic fruit that was so lush and served in abundance, to the masses of historical sites we’ve seen over the last two and a half weeks. I had no idea there was so much to see in Turkey! My brain is still reeling from the overload of world heritage sites, excavation sites and ancient relics we’ve seen and learnt about!

Our first stop in Greece is the gorgeous city we’re staying in tonight – Kavala. No visible signs of Greece’s financial crisis here. Seems like it’s business as usual for the locals, women are impeccably groomed and our hotel is bustling. Watched an exquisite moon rising over the sea before dinner tonight. Night, world!
