Sunday 2 September
We visited a few churches and paths that the apostle Paul would’ve walked in Kavala before heading to Philippi to see the ruins of the ancient city centre, then off to Thessaloniki.
Thessaloniki is a very modern and vibrant city, spoilt only by the graffiti all over the city centre. After driving up to some of the highest points of the city to look out over the sea, we enjoyed our first lunch in Greece: a gyro (meat roasted on a vertical spit, like the Turkish doner), served with a generous amount of tzatziki and tomatoes and wrapped inside a thick pita bread. Delicious!! Because we arrived late afternoon, there’s not much happening here so we’re all enjoying a well-deserved early night.
