Long-time favourite local eatery Golden Dish announced it will close its doors until further notice after its kitchen was gutted by a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Situated on the corner of Hazel and Klipfontein Road in Gatesville, Golden Dish has become a household name among both local and international foodies since it opened in the 1960s.
According to City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue spokesperson Edward Bosch, the cause of the fire that occurred just after 4am on Saturday is still unknown, reported IOL.
‘The rear kitchen was completely destroyed by fire. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage,’ the publication quoted Bosch as saying.
The long-standing, family-run institution took to social media to break the news to the public:
Renowned for its savouries, salomies, toasted sandwiches and, of course, the legendary gatsby among a wide selection of dishes, it is often said that a culinary trip to Cape Town is incomplete without a trip to Golden Dish – the home of greasy goodness.
