• Say hello to Sassy™ apples, the newest showstopper in the fruit aisle. With their vibrant red skin, crisp bite and balance of sweetness and zing, these apples are here to shake up your snack game. And for the first time ever, they’re locally grown in South Africa — fresh from the Ceres Valley straight to select Pick n Pay stores.

    A crunch like no other

Sassy™ apples aren’t just pretty to look at — they deliver on flavour too. Think juicy, sweet and just the right amount of tang to keep things interesting.

“This apple is a total game-changer,” says Rebecca Fifield, food technologist at Pick n Pay. “We know how much our customers love a crisp, refreshing apple and we’re thrilled to introduce something new and exciting to our shelves.”

With 11 apple varieties already available in South Africa, it’s clear we’re a nation that loves our apples. But Pick n Pay isn’t stopping there — they’re leading the way in bringing ‘fruit with a twist’ to local shoppers.

    First blood oranges, now this!

Pick n Pay has a track record of introducing unique, first-to-market fruit:
Blood oranges – once imported, now locally grown
Caviar limes – sold out within days
Dekopon mandarins – a global favourite, now in SA
Valentine oranges – pink-fleshed citrus, here for a limited time

Now, it’s Sassy™ apples’ turn to shine.

    Where to find them

The first batch of Sassy™ apples is incredibly limited, but you can get your hands on them at these four Pick n Pay stores:
📍 Constantia & Plattekloof (Cape Town)
📍 On Nicol & Douglasdale (Johannesburg)

The Sassy™ orchard is still young, so expect bigger volumes in the coming years as the trees mature. But for now, these apples are a rare treat — so grab them while you can!
