Fresh off the previous bar in Illovo, The Union Bar is definitely not letting the spring grass grow under their feet. Scarcely a month would have come and gone, and The Union Bar is back in business – the Monkey business, that is.
Partnering with undoubtedly the world’s finest gin – Monkey 47, The Union Bar is up to their normal tricks, but this time they’re not monkeying around. The world’s most premium gin deserves a premium setting, and The Union Bar is, true to form, raising the bar!
Bringing the Black Forest to trendy Parkwood Mansions (144 Jan Smuts) in Rosebank, Johannesburg, the 47 predominantly unusual but regional botanicals, distilled in Germany and introduced in South Africa for the first time, makes for a hairy… um, heady cocktail.
Talking about cocktails – it wasn’t enough just to get the world’s finest gin. The Union Bar is also getting one of the world’s finest mixologists to collaborate on the menu, local South African boytjie Denzel Heath, to be part of the Jungle Fever.
A range of unique cocktails never seen, experienced or tasted before will make their debut at the new bar, which will be, according to Max the Monkey, Wunderbar Adventures in Sophistication. Featuring only the best from Fitch and Leedes – from their tonic to their ginger ale – it’s the perfect marriage for a monkey’s wedding.
After a detailed, if not eccentric recipe was uncovered for Wing Commander Montgomery “Monty” Collins’s Max the Monkey Gin recipe, the Wild Monkey Distillery in the Black Forest has been perfecting the gin and winning accolades ever since.
To find out more about this wild collaboration launching from 13 October until 16 December, patrons can make a reservation at theunionbar.co.za to skip the queues and get in for free.
