Apple pie
Ingredients
- 4 large free-range eggs
- 400g (2 cups) white sugar
- 45ml (3 tbsp) butter, melted
- 125ml (½ cup) full-cream milk
- salt and ground white pepper, to taste
- 120g (1 cup) cake flour
- 3 Granny Smith apples
Sauce
- 1 x 410g tin Ideal Milk
- 190ml (¾ cup) sugar
- seeds of 1 vanilla pod
- 2,5ml (½ tsp) cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Mix together the eggs and sugar. Add the butter, milk and seasoning.
Sift the flour 3 times and, using a wooden spoon, stir little by little into the sugar mixture. Put the batter into a greased bowl.
Cut the apples into discs, leaving the skin on but removing the seeds. Press the apples into the batter until the batter is full of apples.
Bake in the oven at 180°C for 30 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 150°C and bake until the pie is cooked in the middle, about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
For the sauce, place the ingredients in a saucepan and warm through.
After removing the tart from the oven, pour over the sauce and serve hot.
