Perfect for holiday mornings or when you crave a touch of seasonal nostalgia, this recipe transforms classic French toast with a decadent twist. Soft, pillowy slices of bread are dipped in a rich egg mixture and pan-fried until golden brown.
Topped with warm, spiced mince-pie filling and streaky smoked bacon slices. Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon for an irresistible holiday treat.

Mince-pie French toast
Ingredients
- 250g streaky smoked bacon, sliced
- 30g castor sugar
- 2 eggs
- 250ml (1 cup) milk
- 50ml crème fraîche
- 60ml (¼ cup) classic mincemeat ( see recipe here)
- 8 slices leftover crusty bread
- 100g butter
- 50ml maple syrup
- star anise, to garnish
- cinnamon sticks, to garnish
Instructions
Grill the bacon under a hot grill until crispy, about 10 minutes.
Make the batter by mixing together the sugar and eggs. Add the milk and crème fraîche and mix to combine. Stir the mincemeat into the batter.
Soak the bread slices in the batter, about 30 seconds.
Heat the butter in a non-stick frying pan over low heat and fry the soaked bread slices until golden brown on both sides.
Serve the French toast with a good drizzle of maple syrup and a couple of rashers of crispy bacon. Garnish with star anise and cinnamon sticks.
