Almost 30 years ago, Karl Odendaal bought the farm where The Scone Shack now stands while still working as a chef on a motor yacht in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. In 2018, the Lalaphanzi Succulent Nursery opened on the same farm, and the need for The Scone Shack became apparent as visitors required refreshments after browsing for succulents.
