To end off the year, we asked the Food&Home team a few questions as they get ready to switch off and enjoy the festivities before the new year. Here’s what they had to say:

What dish do you look forward to having on your festive table?
It is not so much on the table, but who will be around the table. My family and I are very traditional, and we have big Christmas lunches with the whole family, so I am looking forward to having all my family around one table, enjoying the spirit of the season.

Do not limit yourself to the possibilities of what your culinary/foodie adventure could be. Try everything!
Any foodie-related new-year’s resolutions or bucket lists that you don’t mind sharing?
I really want to start incorporating meat-free days into my diet. I probably will never go fully vegan unless I have to but exploring plant-based options is what I will be adding to my new year’s resolutions.

Trifle, always!
What do you look forward to most for the new year or summer?
2023 has been a really exhausting year for everyone trying to get back into the full swing of ‘normal life’ after the pandemic. I am excited to reset and set new career goals and just enjoy some warm weather after such a cold winter!

I’m a creature of habit so I tend to stick to the foods that I know and love. In 2024 I would like to broaden my horizon when it comes to food.

I’ve never been a fan of either. But our chocolate and caramel trifle recipe might just be the one to change that! (see below)

Take the time to consider your accomplishments and challenges. What have you learned, and what can you do differently in the coming year to improve your life and achieve your goals? Set realistic and specific resolutions or goals, BUT always be kind to yourself Remember that it’s okay to face setbacks and obstacles, as they are part of the journey.

Hopefully to travel to another country to experience their culture and cuisine.
Fruit cake or trifle?
Do I have to choose? TRIFLE. I’ve never had a “too die for” Christmas cake. But I think if I did , it must have a generous amount of butter on it. I just feel like that is one of the best ways to eat it. Arg but again, my trifle must not be a too ordinary with too much jelly as i don’t always enjoy too many component mushed up together. I enjoy cream and biscuits/cake, so another take on trifle is always best preferred.

My foodie-related new-years resolution is to eat as many eclairs before the year ends, My bucket list is to learn to make my Aunt’s Akni recipe.
Fruit cake or trifle?
Trifle, it’s my Christmas tradition to make trifle with my dad every year, just as it was his tradition to do with my Grandmother.
What do you look forward to most for the new year?
I look most forward to getting to work for the Food&Home team while improving on my writing skills.
