Some of our favourite all-day breakfast spots in Cape Town

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably a little obsessed with breakfast. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (maybe even dessert). Whether it’s eggs benedict, syrupy waffles, or shakshuka — I love it all! That’s why there’s nothing better than a spot that serves breakfast from dawn until closing time. I’m always on the lookout for all-day breakfast spots in and around the Mother City. Here are a few that I’ve tried and tested (plus some that are still on my must-visit list):

Willows Caffè

I recently discovered this hidden gem in the Northern Suburbs. Situated at Willowbridge Centre, Willows Caffè has quickly become one of my go-to all-day brekkie spots, and it’s conveniently close to home. A simple Google search doesn’t do this place justice. The staff are friendly and super helpful, and the food is always impressive. They’ve got all the basics: waffles, French toast, omelettes, eggs benedict, and oats. Their menu also includes gourmet sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and more. With milkshakes, hot drinks, cold drinks, and freshly squeezed juices, there’s plenty to quench your thirst. Vegetarian and banting options are also available — and the best part? It’s all reasonably priced!

Chances are you’ve seen Jarryds pop up on your Instagram feed a few times. It’s one of those popular eateries that’s on many people’s must-visit list. It’s rare to find it anything but packed with regulars and new faces, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a beloved spot. From the Benedicts to the bruschetta and the pancake stacks (the latter is a bucket-list item), you’re bound to be impressed by this local favorite. They also offer an all-day lunch menu.

Now that gloomy skies have given way to sunnier days, this might be the perfect breakfast spot. Four & Twenty Café has two locations—one in Wynberg and one in Constantia. I’ve been to the latter a handful of times, and with the weather warming up, I’m already planning my next visit. It’s not just the food that draws people in (though, trust me, the food is amazing). The café is located on the beautiful Constantia Uitsig wine farm, with a stunning garden just steps away. For breakfast, you can enjoy mouth-watering options like frittatas, eggs Benedict, French toast, breakfast bowls, and mince on toast.

At the top of my must-visit list is Butter. Their social media pages are filled with drool-worthy items from their menu which I cannot wait to try. Butter is Cape Town’s go-to spot for all-day breakfast indulgence. This charming bistro’s mission is simple: celebrate butter in all its forms. Co-owner Aninke van Antwerpen and her team serve up rich, buttery dishes like their famous flapjacks and the signature Butter Benedict. Butter’s commitment to sustainability is clear, sourcing ingredients locally and supporting small businesses. Despite opening during the challenges of COVID-19, Butter’s cosy, communal vibe has made it a hit.
