The Plettenberg Hotel proudly unveils its newly redesigned restaurant, Amelia’s at The Plettenberg. This stunning dining destination is set to become a must-visit venue in Plett, appealing to both resident guests and casual diners looking to enjoy breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and dinner.
The reimagined Amelia’s at The Plettenberg is the creation of renowned designers Dawn Dickerson, Carmel Naude, and Tammy Fourie from HotCocoa Interiors & Design. The team, who also transformed The Conservatory restaurant at The Cellars-Hohenort in Cape Town last year, brought their expertise to this seaside gem.
Situated on a rocky headland with an unparalleled view of the ocean and the bay across Lookout Beach, The Plettenberg is one of South Africa’s most spectacular beach hotels. According to Dawn Dickerson, the design inspiration for Amelia’s came directly from this breathtaking scenery. The terrace has been expanded, offering long banquette seating and a timber pergola, perfect for outdoor dining with ocean views. Inside, the space was opened up by replacing structural columns with elegant natural timber beams, creating a welcoming, spacious dining area complemented by chic banquettes.
The design concept captures the beauty of the surrounding environment, bringing the colors of the sea indoors. The palette ranges from white-tipped waves and deep teal to the rich blue hues of the ocean, all framed by the distant mountains and the warm tones of sand.
The restaurant’s floor features a mix of wet sand and white checkerboard tiles, accented with terracotta and deep teal blue. These elements, combined with patterned tiles and vibrant fabrics in blues and turquoise, create a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. The highlight of the space is a collection of custom-designed ceramic pendants, inspired by sea creatures, which serve as a striking focal point against a bold hand-painted mural by artist Tiziana Giardini. The mural, which comes to life as night falls, mirrors the stunning views from the restaurant.
Jacqui Elliott, CEO of The Liz McGrath Collection, describes Amelia’s at The Plettenberg as “colorful, whimsical, elegant, sophisticated, yet approachable.” She notes that the restaurant offers a warm and intimate space where diners can savor delicious meals while enjoying the spectacular ocean views. Executive Chef Tronette Dippenaar and her team have crafted an exciting new menu that celebrates fresh flavors, from seafood and grills to innovative takes on classic dishes, perfectly aligned with the barefoot luxury for which The Plettenberg is known.
Part of The Liz McGrath Collection and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Plettenberg features 37 beautifully appointed guest rooms, including two spectacular Villas and 12 Suites, many with breathtaking sea views, as well as two swimming pools, a spa, and a gym.
