Big 7 Travel compiled a prestigious list of the “50 best pizzas in the world”, with 1.5 million people from 60 countries taking surveys and voting for the best travel accolades worldwide.
This year Massimo’s in Hout Bay and Ferdinando’s in Observatory have been included on a list celebrating world-recognised pizza.

Restaurant inclusions were ranked based on several factors:
- Crust, sauce and cheese
- Value for money
- Consistency (Google and critic reviews)
- Innovation
- Atmosphere
- Location and accessibility
- Big 7 Travel writer suggestions and previous awards
Massimo placed 45th on the list, while Ferdinando’s came in at 31st.

It should come as no surprise, though, as both restaurants are no strangers to accolades. Massimo was awarded “Best Pizzeria in Africa” in 2021 and 2019 for its classic Italian Spitiri Famosi liqueur, and Ferdinando’s won Porcupine Ridge’s “Best Pizzeria in South Africa” in 2022.
