• Media personalities Dineo and Zothile “Solo” Langa are no strangers to the public eye and the country continues to swoon and gush over their relationship that has been going strong for 12 years. Thousands of South Africans tuned in to watch Kwakuhle Kwethu, a three-part documentary that followed the couple’s journey to walking down the aisle five years ago.

Recently, the Langas teamed up with Rajah to share their love story and their love for curry. The “Aroma You Can Taste” campaign reminds consumers about the powerful aroma and flavour that the number one curry powder in the country is known for and its ability to enhance the everyday chicken curry.

When asked about the decision to bring the Langas on board, Rajah brand manager Phumzile Nkwakhwa said, “As Rajah we believe that home cooked meals bring families together and the Langas are the epitome of warmth that our brand is known for. When we found out that the Langas are also fans of cooking together, we thought what better way to bring the concept of love and home cooked meals together than to work with these two people who love each other and the good curries Rajah is known for.”

In addition to the aromatic flavour that the curry powder brand is known for, the brand also wants to drive the move to home cooked meals.

It is known that many convenience meals are generally high in additives, sugar and salt. The couple adds, “Besides the obvious saving of money, there’s a tailoring of recipes to accommodate dietary requirements. Also, we have more of a control on our health and fitness goals when we’re able to customise our nutritional needs.”

However, research also reveals that there are also psychological and emotional benefits of home cooking.

John Moore, DO, an Aetna medical director and senior health specialist said, “Cooking is a good, stimulating activity to help seniors stay busy and use their minds,” he says, noting that learning new skills and tasks — like preparing a new recipe — can stave off cognitive decline.”

Cooking with family and friends also creates an opportunity to bond with a loved one which further alleviates negative emotions such as anxiety and stress. Children can also be included in the cooking process through designating safe tasks like rinsing vegetables, shredding lettuce and rolling dough.

With the variety of ways to cook chicken curry on What’s For Dinner and the array of sides available, there are ample recipes to choose from for cooking with the whole family. From the everyday chicken curry to pies with a chicken curry filling. Rajah also comes in six different flavours and levels of heat to cater to every palette; Mild & Spicy, Flavourful & Mild, All-In-One, Medium, Hot and Mild Masala.

“For the longest time we both couldn’t stand hot food but at some point, my husband jumped ship and started liking the burn. I prefer my curry mild, and he prefers his hot”, said Dineo.

Rajah is searching for South Africa’s best chicken curry. If you think your recipe could be the one to beat them all, find out more here.
