Looking for a fun and educational activity to keep your little ones entertained during the spring school holidays? Look no further than Willowbridge Shopping Centre in Tyger Valley, where they are bringing back their immensely popular Kids in the Kitchen workshop series.
This year, children can immerse themselves in the world of baking by participating in the super Insta-savvy and hands-on Bento Cake Decorating Classes, turning them into mini pastry chefs.
Bento cakes, which have been making waves on social media, are mini lunchbox-sized cakes adorned with adorable decorations. These delightful treats have a fascinating history, originating in 12th-century Japan, with the term ‘bento’ referring to ‘convenience’ due to their single-serving size.
Children aged 3 to 12 years old will have the chance to explore their culinary creativity during a 45-minute class led by skilled Pastry Chefs at Willowbridge Shopping Centre. Rest assured, the classes are fully supervised for your peace of mind.
Each child will be provided with two pre-baked vanilla sponge cakes measuring around 15cm, assorted icing colours, cake decorations, fondant topper ingredients and all the necessary tools.
To add to the excitement, kids will also receive a chef’s hat and apron, so don’t forget to bring a fully charged phone to capture these delightful memories. During the workshop, your little ones will learn the art of cake decorating, including how to ice a cake to perfection with buttercream, create smooth fillings, stack layers and more.
The session includes an easy-to-follow demonstration where nifty techniques are shared, teaching kids how to craft a basic fondant cake topper, decorate borders and explore their creativity with other beautiful elements.
Once their masterpieces are complete, these budding pastry chefs get to take their creations home to proudly showcase to their families.

There are four Kids in the Kitchen sessions available daily at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m., with each session lasting 45 minutes.
To ensure a quality experience, each class is limited to a maximum of 20 kids, making advance booking essential. Be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled session for registration, as latecomers may not be accommodated.
While the sessions are supervised, parents are welcome to accompany their younger children throughout the workshop. Drop-and-go is also an option for added convenience.
It’s important to note that the cakes and buttercream frosting used in the workshop contain eggs, dairy and wheat. The cakes were baked in a factory that may have traces of nuts.
Unfortunately, the classes cannot accommodate specific dietary requirements such as gluten-free, dairy-free or egg-free alternatives. Additionally, the colour of butter icing and fondant coating may vary based on product availability. All ingredients used are Halaal.
Book your spot in advance and get ready for a fun-filled and delicious adventure this spring school holiday!
