In time for the Franschhoek Valley’s annual Bastille Festival, La Motte proudly unveils the latest vintage of its celebrated Millennium red blend, inspired by the renowned wines of Bordeaux.
The 2022 La Motte Millennium is a classic blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%), and Petit Verdot (4%), matured for 12 months in 300-litre French oak barrels. While this blend pairs beautifully with traditional French recipes, it also stands out as a versatile South African favourite.
Sourced from the diverse Cape Winelands, including vineyards in Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek, each region imparts unique flavours and structure to the wine. The 2022 growing season saw favourable conditions, despite some rain-induced disease pressure and mid-summer heatwaves, resulting in slightly lower acidity and higher pH levels than the previous year.
This vintage offers aromatic notes of blackberries and plums, complemented by hints of fruit cake and dark toffee. The careful barrel maturation adds nuances of cloves and charred oak to the medium-full palate, characterised by soft yet lively tannins and a lingering berry aftertaste.
Perfect for intimate fireside conversations, hearty dinner debates, or festive gatherings, the 2022 La Motte Millennium pairs excellently with both French classics like cassoulet and chateaubriand, as well as local favorites such as lamb chops on the braai, ostrich sosaties, and hearty winter vegetable dishes.
