What’s a dinner party without the most beloved side of all? Baguette-style breadsticks are an absolute classic, as popular as they are delicious! These are great when opened and stuffed with different fillings such as ham, cheese and olive pesto.
Baguette-style breadsticks
Ingredients
- 500g cake flour
- 20ml salt
- 2 x 10g instant yeast
- 370ml warm water
Instructions
Mix the flour and salt together in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle with the yeast and make a well in the centre of the flour mixture. Add the water and mix to form a soft, sticky dough.
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until soft and smooth, about 10 minutes.
Put the dough in a clean bowl and cover with a kitchen towel. Leave in a warm place to rise until double in size, about 2 hours.
Knock back, recover and leave to rise for a further 50 minutes. Knock back again and leave to rise until double in size again, about 50 minutes.
Divide the dough into 6 equal-sized pieces and shape into baguettes. Place on a lightly floured baking sheet and cover with a kitchen towel. Prove until double in size, about 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 240°C.
Make several diagonal slashes across the top of the baguettes and bake until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped underneath, about 40 minutes. Cool on a rack and serve.
