Hot chocolate has experienced somewhat of a renaissance in the past few years, and spiced white hot chocolate is the latest twist. Warm and creamy with a special spike for the adults, it’s to die for. The perfect drink for a chilly night.
Spiced white hot chocolate
Ingredients
- 500ml (2 cups) low-fat milk
- 2 whole star anise
- 3 cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 60ml white rum
- 400g white chocolate, finely chopped
- 125ml (½ cup) fresh whipped cream, to serve
- 5ml (1 tsp) ground cinnamon, to serve
Instructions
Heat the milk, star anise, cardamom and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Remove from heat and let it stand for 15 minutes to cool.
Strain the milk into a bowl and discard the whole spices.
Return the empty saucepan back to medium heat. Add the rum, chocolate and infused milk, and gently heat, stirring until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is hot.
Pour into two large mugs and serve with a dollop of whipped cream sprinkled with ground cinnamon.
